Developing Route 6 — Ein Tut-Yokne'am
Completing Route 6— a 5 km segment from Ein Tut to Yokne'am.
Expanding the existing road to 4 lanes in each direction, upgrading the KKL picnic parking area at Elyakim forest to include a private vehicle and truck rest stop. This rest area is the first of its kind in Israel since it allows direct access from the highway into a designated rest stop for trucks. The parking lot will also be a departure point for hikes into Elyakim Forest nature reserve, and will include new playgrounds. We will also upgrade the access to the industrial zone to a dual-lane road. This section is located between two franchise-managed road sections.
Roadworks have been conducted in the center of the road (breaking the center divider to divert traffic) and on the sides of the road (concrete drainage channels and construction works along the outline of the future routes). Parts of the road have undergone scrubbing and stratification works to strengthen the existing carriageway. Furthermore, the area of the KKL picnic area parking lot, between Elyakim and Yokne'am interchanges included the implementation of especially high (20-30 meters) nail walls, across a 600 meters. Work on an acoustic wall adjacent to Moshav Elyakim has also begun. The primary works planned for the next couple of months: constructing the acoustic wall, continuing to build the walls, completing quarrying and paving of new lanes. Traffic is planned to be diverted into the new lanes in the first quarter of 2021.
At the end of the project, Route 6 will allow driving across 1964 km from Be’er Sheva to the Somech Interchange, without traffic lights.
